Of Doors, Trunks, a Roof, Jobs, and Manicures!

FREE EVENT!
Doors Open Winnipeg - Saturday May 28 and Sunday May 29, 2011

Doors Open Winnipeg is a free public event put on annually by Heritage Winnipeg. This year there are over 70 buildings and events that have committed to participating in the 8th annual Doors Open Winnipeg event...including Oseredok!

Doors Open originated in France in the 1980s, with the number of participating countries increasing in ten years to 47 and the number of visitors reaching the 20 million mark in 2000.  Building on the European success, New York City, Sydney, Australia, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, launched their own Doors Open programs. The Doors Open phenomenon came to Canada when Toronto began an annual event in 2000, attracting 76,000 visitors to over 90 buildings. Since then, events have been held in Ottawa, Calgary, St. John's, Brandon, and, of course, Winnipeg!

Oseredok will be participating in Doors Open Winnipeg on Saturday, May 28, 2011 from 10am to 4pm!

NEW EXHIBIT!
May 28 through October 15, 2011

Oseredok is proud to present its new exhibition BABA'S TRUNK in tribute to all generations of Ukrainian settlers in Canada. This exhibit features items from Oseredok's Permanent Collection.

ROOF RENOVATION

The roof renovation at Oseredok has begun in ernest! Today, the roofing crew has been removing the old false roof on the one-storeyed wing on the south side of the building. They discovered a large framed glass pane on the floor of the roof, indicating that at some point in time, there was a skylight. This skylight would have been located on the ceiling of the Boutique, just above the bookcases!

Discovering what's beneath the old roof!

We hope that you'll follow us, and offer your comments!

Monday was a big day at Oseredok! In the morning we began the second phase of our roof replacement project. In order for the actual replacement work to commence, the rooftop air conditioning unit had to be removed.
The work went surprisingly quickly and smoothly (except for hitting a snag at the outset, when the crane unit began to sink into the ground of the parking lot from the weight of the unit!)
